RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT AMENDMENTS
WHEREAS, Various amendments have been proposed to the Freedom of Information
Act thrugh House Bill 0190, introduced by Representative Currie, and Senate Bill 91,
introduced by Senator Lauzen; and
WHEREAS, Most of these proposed amendments were the subject of many lengthy
public hearings throughout 1994 at various locations throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, Many organizations, including the Illinois Press Association, Municipal
Clerks of Illinois and various Councils of Government throughout Illinois, as well as
numerous individuals, provided testimony on these issues; and
WHEREAS, The Illinois Municipal League urged the Legislature to reject these
proposals; and
WHEREAS, A compromise was reached among these various interest groups, which
provided in part for a two (2) year moratorium on reconsideration of these proposals; and
WHEREAS, The VILLAGE OF LEMONT continues to have very serious
reservations regarding the impact of the proposed amendments, yet as an organization
stands ready to meet with other interested organizations, be they proponents or opponents
of this legislation, in an effort to reiterate our varied and legitimate reasons supporting our
opposition to these amendments.
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the above information, the VILLAGE OF
LEMONT respectfully urges that our State Legislators reject the amendments as proposed
by House Bill 0190 and Senate Bill 91.
