AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS OF
THE LEMONT MUNICIPAL CODE
CHAPTER 15.16 ENTITLED "ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT"
BE IT ORDAINED, by the President and the Board of Trustees
of the Village of Lemont, County of Cook, State of Illinois,
that the following sections of the Lemont Municipal Code relating
to Code adopted- Standards and specifications, Permit- issuance
conditions, and Permit -fee schedule be amended to read as follows:
Chapter 15.16 "Electrical Equipment"
Section 15.16.030 Code adopted - Standards and specifications.
A. The rules and regulations of the National Fire
Protection Association as-contained in the code known
as the "National Electrical Code," 1990 Edition, with
the following additions, insertions, deletions and changes:
1. The minimum service capacity for each dwelling unit
shall be a three -wire, ground neutral, one hundred -
ampere service;
2. Service entrance conductors shall not be smaller
than three No. 2 Type RH, THW or RHW, or equivalent.
Service entrance conductors shall be continuous
(without splice) from meter fitting to service dis-
connecting means;
3. The use of aluminum wire for any purpose whatsoever
is prohibited;
4. All service entrance conductors shall be enclosed in
a minimum one and one - fourth inch rigid pipe;
5. For all new electrical installations, thin wall conduit
shall be used in the interior, rigid conduit shall be
used on the exterior, and U F cable shall be permitted
for underground.
6. In all remodeling work where the wall, floor and /or
ceiling is enclosed, Greenfield or BX can be used.
Any open area shall be in conduit. Romex in any
case shall not be permitted.
B. The rules and regulations regarding the installation,
alteration and use of electrical equipment, as adopted by
the electrical supply company now supplying the Village,
as last published and filed with the Illinois Commerce
Commission, a copy of such code and the last mentioned
rules and regulations being now on file in the office of
the Village Clerk.
15.16.090 Permit - Issuance conditions.
A. The following are adopted as reasonable rules and
regulations governing the issuance of permits for elec-
trical installation or alterations:
1. It is unlawful to install or alter any electrical
equipment or wiring without having first secured
a permit therefor.
2. An application for such permit shall be made in
writing on application forms provided by the
Building Department, and shall be referred to the
electrical inspector. Each application shall con-
tain the name of the owner of the premises to be
served, the name of the registered electrical con -
tractor doing the work, and the nature of the work
to be done. Where the work consists of new
installations or extensive repairs or alterations,
plans and specifications of the work shall accompany
the application.
3. Where an electrical installation has been started
prior to the issuance of a permit for such work,
the normal permit fee as required by this chapter
shall be increased by the amount of fifty dollars.
B. Where a registered electrical contractor is found
doing electrical work without a permit on three separate
occasions in one calendar year, a hearing shall be held by
the electrical commission, at which time it may be recom-
mended to the Village Board that the permit privileges of
such electrical contractor may be suspended for a period of
time not to exceed one year.
15.16.100 Permit - Fee schedule.
The permit fees for all electrical work shall be as indicated
in the following schedule:
A. Electrical permit fees for new construction will be
combined with the building permit fee. This fee will be
based on total construction costs, and include all structural,
electrical, plumbing, mechanical, interior and exterior
finishes and normal site preparation.
B. Except as provided in subsection A of this section, the
fee for all other installations or alterations of electrical
services shall be as follows:
0 to 200 ampere, 3 or 4 wire
201 to 1,000 ampere, 3 or 4 wire
$50.00
$75.00
Fees for services in excess of 1,000 amperes
shall be computed on the basis of the rating
of the service disconnects installed, prorated
according to the schedule above.
C. Except as provided in subsection A of this section,
the fee for each new circuit for new fixtures, sockets or
receptacles shall be $10.00 (ten dollars) per circuit.
D. Minimum permit fee, $25.00 (twenty -five dollars).
E. For each motor or current - consuming device other than
lighting fixtures, the fee shall be as follows:
One motor or current - consuming device $10.00
Each additional motor or current device $ 5.00
F. For each electric sign, the fee shall be $25.00
(twenty -five dollars).
G. Each reinspection of any overhead, underground or inter -
wire equipment shall be charged $25.00 (twenty -five dollars).
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and publication in the manner provided
by law.
The Village Clerk of the Village of Lemont shall certify to
the adoption of this Ordinance and cause the same to be published
in pamphlet form.
