INCOME TAX SURCHARGE RESOLUTION
ASKING GOVERNOR EDGAR TO SUPPORT MUNICIPALITIES
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has shared with local governments; municipalities
and counties, with needed revenues since 1989 with income tax surcharge proceeds;
WHEREAS, the temporary income tax surcharge for municipalities and counties will
expire on June 30, 1993;
WHEREAS, municipalities and counties have tremendous financial needs to directly
serve the citizens of Illinois with local programs;
WHEREAS, the Federal and State government continue to impose unfunded state
mandates on local governments;
WHEREAS, this revenue is essential to sound municipal and county fiscal health;
WHEREAS, Governor Edgar will be delivering the State Budget Address on March
3, 1993;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Village of Lemont that this corporate body,
a political subdivision of the State, does hereby request that the Chief Executive Officer
support and endorse in the 1993 Budget Address the permanent extension of the income
tax surcharge with the proceeds dedicated to municipalities and counties.
