A RESOLUTION OF OBJECTION FOR THE RECORD OF THE COOK COUNTY
ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS REGARDING A REQUEST FOR VARIANCES
FOR DOUBLE -FACED ILLUMINATED OUTDOOR ADVERTISING SIGNS
ON THE TIEDT PROPERTY ABUTTING FUTURE I -355 R.O.W.
WHEREAS, The Village of Lemont is a zoned municipality with limits near the property which is the
subject of a request for a variation in the cause known as Docket Number 6421 and 6422 before the Cook
County Zoning Board of Appeals, said property being described as follows:
Docket #6421: THAT PART OF W. 1/2 OF NW 1/4 OF SEC. 30, T37N, R11, E. OF 3RD
P.M., DESC. AS FOLLOWS: COMM. AT N. LINE OF S. 177.93' OF SAID NW 1/4 & E.
LINE OF W. 1/2 OF SAID NW 1/4, THENCE N. APPROX. 260', FOR P.O.B. SAID PT.
BEING PROPOSED E'LY R.O.W. LINE OF I -355, THENCE NW'LY ALONG SAID

COMMONLY KNOWN AS BOTH SIDES OF THE I -355 EXTENSION, SOUTH OF NEW
AVENUE; and
WHEREAS, the entire boundary of the subject property is within 1 1/2 miles of the corporate limits
of the Village of Lemont; and
WHEREAS, the need for the decrease in sign separation, increase in sign length and setback reduction
from the proposed Tollway R.O.W. is not due to the particular physical surroundings, shape or topographical
conditions of the specific property involved in the request; and
WHEREAS, the request for the decrease in sign separation, increase in sign Length and setback
reduction from the propsed Tollway R.O.W. would not be unique to this specific property but could be
applicable to any other property within the same zoning classifications; and
WHEREAS, the erection of outdoor advertising signs with the proposed variances would be based
exclusively on a desire for the property owner and lessee to make more money out of the property; and
WHEREAS, outdoor advertising signs are detrimental to the public welfare and are injurious to other
property in the area by creating negative aesthetic impact on the historic I &M Canal area and other properties;
and
WHEREAS, granting of the variances could impair an adequate supply of light to adjacent properties
and may endanger public safety due to their location in relation to the proposed I -355 Bridge; and
WHEREAS, the variance for increasing the sign length to 48 feet is not authorized by the Cook
County Zoning Ordinance as the Ordinance only allows a 20% increase in the maximum 35 foot length
requirement; and
WHEREAS, no variance has been sought in regards to height of signs which would hide these signs
from view of the I -355 bridge if allowed at the maximum 20 foot heights by the Cook County Zoning
Ordinances; and
WHEREAS, no variance has been sought in regards to the 10 foot setback from the south edge of
the proposed R.O.W. instead of the minimum required 500 feet; and
WHEREAS, the I &M Canal Nat'l. Heritage Corridor has been so designated by the U.S. Department
of the Interior National Park Service; and
WHEREAS, the Community has made a concerted effort to control signage standards on main
entrances into this historic Community.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Lemont, Counties of Cook, DuPage and Will, State of Illinois, that the Village of Lemont hereby objects to
the request for variances which is the subject of Cook County Zoning Board of Appeals Docket Numbers 6421
and 6422.
