RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPERTY TAX REFORM
IN COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS
BY THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Illinois property tax system is inefficient because it fails to provide
adequate revenue to underwrite education and government services most needed for a productive
economy; and
WHEREAS, recent research and detailed surveys conducted by the Chicago Southland
Chamber of Commerce prove that the extremely high real estate taxes in Cook County, Illinois are
the nuber one reason businesses are leaving Illinois and Cook County or refusing to locate in this
area; and
WHEREAS, Cook County loses businesses to other states and to neighboring collar counties
in Illinois because property taxes in Cook County are twice as high as in other counties in Illinois
and in surrounding states;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Lemont supports reform of
the real estate tax system to reduce reliance on property taxes to fund education and government
services.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, COUNTIES OF COOK, WILL, AND DU PAGE, ILLINOIS,
