R-82-98 Urging the Cook County Board to acquire open spaceRESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION URGING THE COOK COUNTY BOARD
TO ACQUIRE OPEN SPACE
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont is blessed with thousands of acres of forest preserve land
adjacent to our community; and
WHEREAS, forest preserves greatly enhance the quality of life for Cook County residents
and are accessible to all residents at no charge; and
WHEREAS, forest preserves are vital for flood control, water and air quality, wildlife
habitat, recreation and peace of mind; and
WHEREAS, forest preserves prevent excessive development, thereby easing traffic
congestion; and
WHEREAS, the last remaining open areas in Cook County are under severe pressure for
development; and
WHEREAS, the Cook County Forest Preserve District has had very limited funds to acquire
additional land in the past few years, resulting in the loss to development of hundreds of prime open
space acres; and
WHEREAS, the present Cook County Board has demonstrated a desire to continue the
proud tradition of past Cook County Boards in acquiring new forest preserve lands;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Lemont strongly urges the
Cook County Board to act with foresight and wisdom in acquiring the Tampier - McGinnis
connection as well as other properties, creating new public open space as a legacy to the people of
Cook County.
