RESOLUTION ADOPTING AN ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont believes that an environmental policy to protect the
air, water, and land of the Village will enhance its vision of strong neighborhoods, thriving
businesses, and an open and accessible government. The Village will perform its activities in a
responsible manner by protecting human health and the environment.
WHEREAS, the Village is committed to meeting or exceeding applicable, Federal, State,
and local regulatory and legal environmental requirements.
WHEREAS, the Village seeks pollution prevention and to practice waste minimization.
The Village will establish objectives and programs to promptly and effectively deal with
environmental regulations and emergencies.
WHEREAS, the Village is to actively explore and promote the preservation and creation
of publicly available natural recreational resources within the Community.
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont is committed to continual improvement of its efforts
to protect human health and the environment through the development of an environmental
management system (ems) by:
• Establishing goals for improving environmental performance,
• Developing efficient and effective strategies and working practices and schedules to
achieve these goals, and
• Periodically assess the progress in meeting these goals.
WHEREAS, the Village will communicate its policy to the public, Village employees and
village contractors. The Village will strive to inform the public of responsible actions the public
can take with regard to the protection of human health and the environment, and involve
interested persons in the identification and resolution of environmental issues.
NOW '1H REFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Lemont Environmental
Policy be approved as submitted by the Lemont Environmental Advisory Commission.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES of HE
