RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO CONSERVATION EFFORTS
(GREEN LEMONT INITIATIVE)
WHEREAS, conservation is becoming an issue across governmental agencies in Illinois, across
the United States and spanning the global community; and
WHEREAS, individual municipalities, in aggregate, can have an influential impact on the nation's
energy consumption and conservation of natural resources;
WHEREAS, making Lemont an ecologically sustainable and healthy community is recognized as a
worthy and essential pursuit; and
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has declared the "Illinois Green Streets Initiative" as one such
effort aimed to conserve and protect our environment towards a cleaner, more sustainable future; and
WHEREAS, certain municipalities across the region are searching for ways to promote
conservation of natural resources; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Lemont that the "Green Lemont Initiative," be created and that this initiative is to include the following
elements, under the direction and guidance of the Community Development Department:
1. The creation of a task force comprised of representatives of the Village and other local
agencies, organizations, and taxing bodies with the purpose of examining conservation
efforts that can be implemented by the Village and encouraged by other agencies; and
2. Education efforts aimed at informing residents of best conservation practices.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
LEMONT, COUNTIES OF COOK, WILL, AND DU PAGE, ILLINOIS, on this 26th day of November, 2007.
