RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO CANAL CORRIDOR ASSOCIATION
MANAGEMENT PLAN
ADOPTED BY THE
PRESIDENT AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT

RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO CANAL CORRIDOR ASSOCIATION
MANAGEMENT PLAN
WHEREAS, the United States Congress established the Illinois & Michigan Canal National
Heritage Corridor as the nation's first national heritage area in 1984; and
WHEREAS, the Congress has named the Canal Corridor Association the local coordinating
entity for the I &M Canal National Heritage Corridor and appointed the Canal Corridor Association to
develop and submit to the Secretary of the Interior a management plan for the Corridor; and
WHEREAS, this management plan will present recommendations for the Illinois &Michigan
Canal National Heritage Corridor's preservation, conservation, funding, development, and management;
and
WHEREAS, Lemont is one of forty -nine communities located within the Illinois &Michigan
Canal National Heritage Corridor, and Lemont's growth and development is indubitably linked with the
construction and operation of the I &M Canal; and
WHEREAS, a partnership between the Canal Corridor Association and the Village of Lemont
would mutually benefit both parties in their efforts preserve the I &M Canal as a historical, cultural, and
economic resource;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Village President and the Board of Trustees of
the Village of Lemont shall hereby be a partner with the Canal Corridor Association in the process to
develop, submit and gain federal approval of a management plan for the Illinois & Michigan Canal
National Heritage Corridor.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, COUNTIES OF COOK, WILL, AND DuPAGE, ILLINOIS, on this
23rd day of November, 2009.
