R-343-94 Supporting the Reconstruction of the 13th Street BridgeRESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RECONSTRUCTION
OF THE 135TH STREET BRIDGE
WHEREAS, the closure of the 135th Street Bridge traversing the Sanitary & Ship
Canal has had an adverse impact upon transportation, commercial activity and public
safety in the Villages of Romeoville and Lemont; and
WHEREAS, transportation linkages across the Des Plaines River Valley are severely
limited, particularly in view of the increased population of the area; and
'WHEREAS, the reconstruction of the 135th Street Bridge will be a critical step
toward re- establishing the area's transportation, commercial and public safety needs; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont seeks to have this roadway access restored for the
overall benefit of the region.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Village of Lemont is supportive
of all efforts being undertaken by the Village of Romeoville, Illinois Department of
Transportation, and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago toward
reconstructing the 135th Street Bridge.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Village of Lemont encourages a rapid
reconstruction schedule to alleviate the negative impacts which currently plague the region.
