R-297-94 Seeking Metra to add additional train service to the Heritage Corridor Commuter rail lineITEM VI.B.2 RESOLUTION RESOLUTION SEEKING METRA TO ADD ADDITIONAL TRAIN SERVICE TO THE HERITAGE CORRIDOR COMMUTER RAH, LINE WHEREAS, METRA operates the Heritage Corridor commuter rail line which directly serves the communities of Summit, Willow Springs, Lemont, Lockport and Joliet; and WHEREAS, the Heritage Corridor line operates a total of 4 trains per weekday which is the lowest number of trains within the METRA system, and WHEREAS, the southwest suburban area is experiencing changing demographics and a rapid increase in population which has created a demand for expanded train service; and WHEREAS, an additional morning and evening train is needed to provide commuters with an additional option to discourage the use of automobiles travelling to downtown Chicago, or to neighboring rail lines which offer more service options.
