RESOLUTION T 57
RESOLUTION SEEKING MWRDGC POLICY
PROHIBITING LEASE OF PUBLIC LAND FOR
THE ERECTION OF BILLBOARDS
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont is located in the Des Plaines River Valley offering
scenic views of the waterways and natural land features; and
WHEREAS, the view includes the skyline of Downtown Lemont reflecting the history
of our community's settlement and growth since the 1830's; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is a
major property owner of territory located in and adjacent to the Village of Lemont; and
WHEREAS, the recent approval of the I -355 Tollway extension has brought much
interest to Lemont and the Des Plaines River Valley for the construction of billboards
adjacent to the highway; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is likely
to be approached by billboard firms seeking to lease District lands for the erection of
billboards; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont is vehemently opposed to the proliferation of
billboards which will destroy the scenic and historic views found in the Des Plaines River
Valley; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of
the Village of Lemont that:
1. We seek Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago support
in prohibiting the erection of billboards on any District -owned property within
Lemont or Lemont Township.
2. We seek Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago support
in prohibiting the erection of billboards on any District- leased property within
Lemont or Lemont Township.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, COUNTIES OF COOK, WILL, AND DU PAGE, ILLINOIS,
on this 14th day of October , 1996.
