A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION OF A
CERTAIN PUBLIC POLICY QUESTION TO
THE ELECTORS OF THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Village of Lemont is a non -home rule unit within the meaning of
the 1970 Illinois Constitution; and
WHEREAS, Section 11 of Article VII of the 1970 Illinois Constitution provides that
proposals for actions which are authorized by Article VII or by law and which require
approval by referendum may be initiated and submitted to the electors by resolution of the
governing board of a unit of local government; and,
WHEREAS, the President and Village Board of Trustees of the Village of Lemont
desire to submit to the electors of the Village of Lemont a proposition that the Village of
Lemont elect to become a home rule unit.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the President and Village Board of Trustees
of the Village of Lemont, Cook, DuPage and Will Counties, Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That the following public question be submitted to the electors of the
Village of Lemont at the Consolidated Election to be held on April 1, 1997:
Shall the Village of Lemont
become a Home Rule Unit
YES
Pursuant to the Provisions
of Article VII Section 11
of the 1970 Illinois Constitution
NO
Section 2: That the Village Clerk of the Village of Lemont, as the local election
official is directed hereby to file a certified copy hereof with the County Clerk and
thereafter, within the time authorized by law shall certify the public question to be
submitted to referendum, as well as all other persons authorized by law to receive
such notice and /or certification.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, COUNTIES OF COOK, WILL, AND DU PAGE, ILLINOIS,
on this 27th day of January , 1997.
