It is our hone that you will share this information avid recommendation with both the Mayor and the Village Board, LEMONT AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE October 5,2001 Village of Lemont Mayor and Trustees 418 Main Street Lemont, IL 60439 Dear Honorable Mayor and Trustees: As in the past, present and future, the Lemont Chamber wants what is best for our business community and the Lemont community as a whole. Both Chicago Southland and Heritage Corridor are good strong organizations and spoken of highly by communities involved and working with them. Both provide advertising and marketing opportunities for businesses. A strong plus with Chicago Southland is the availability of grant money to community organizations. While the Heritage Corridor does have some grant money available it doesn't seem to have as much. But the question to be asked as, what is best for the entire community, not just organizations? Lemont is a unique community with much to offer visitors of its history. It would best serve to work with a group who can offer more capitalization of the I & M Canal corridor, which Lemont is a part of. It is clear that Heritage Corridor works heavily with communities along the I & M Canal. It is also clear that our Village government is undertaking a proactive role in forming committees to work directly with the revitalization & restoration of the I & M Canal corridor through Lemont. Whichever organization the Village commits to for 2002, the Chamber and business community will need to take proactive roles. We then must work at communicating and working together to achieve positive results for our community. At this time, if a change is needed and there are more opportunities to market Lemont as a day trip community, it would be our recommendation to work with the Heritage Corridor. Possibly there is a way to work with each group and get the best of both.
