R-42-07 Res. Support Pace and Funding Support Moving Beyond CongestionRESOLUTION ga .T, ? A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PACE AND FUNDING TO SUPPORT MOVING BEYOND CONGESTION WHEREAS, Pace, the suburban Bus Division of the Regional Transportation Authority, has provided much needed transportation services to our suburban communities since 1984; and WHEREAS, Pace has been responsive to commuters' needs with partnerships and innovative programs; and WHEREAS, Pace receives the equivalent of only 1/16 of a cent in sales tax region -wide; and WHEREAS, Pace's public funding has not kept pace with its expenses and allows no ability for expansion of service into growing areas; and WHEREAS, Pace has a 2007 budget deficit of $23 million in its suburban service budget and $81 million in its regional ADA paratransit service budget; and WHEREAS, the RTA's Moving Beyond Congestion campaign calls for $400 million in new annual operating funds and $10 billion in capital funding over five years to support the region's public transit needs; and WHEREAS, we value the service Pace provides and; therefore, be it RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE OF LEMONT, that we encourage the Illinois General Assembly to provide Pace the funding necessary to maintain current service and expand into currently unserved aras; and be it further RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be presented to our members of the Illinois House of Representatives and Illinois Senate as an expression of our support for Pace and the Moving Beyond Congestion campaign.
